If you told me I would be making stained glass creations during my life, I would have laughed at you. In general, I am clumsy and do not mix well with glass. Since having some time off, I have been opening myself up to more experiences. Trying kick boxing, playing hockey, and taking a raku ceramics class. While leafing through a community classes catalog, I stopped and read the stained glass section. It seemed interesting and I was looking for something to do, so I signed up.
My class experience was strange. I was basically surrounded by older generations of people and seemed a bit out of place. The class consisted of people who were looking to re-learn because of failed past attempts, various retirees, and homemakers looking to make gifts. A good group of people but I stuck out. We picked out easy patterns, such as, flowers and birds. My teacher was a tad baffled by my choices in color for a rose, all purple. Anyone can make a rose look like a rose. I would rather do something a little different and experiment with the textures of the glass. While others were struggling, I was waiting for the next step. I finished my first project quickly and was already thinking about the images I could place in glass.
Since then, I have learned to make Moravian Stars and completed a few more projects, including a mirror. Working with glass is incredibly fun and worthwhile. I never feel limited to the patterns that other people prefer. Recently, I started offering Moravian Stars across the Internet. You may visit my glass website, Bean's Glass.
